Prepare Your Artwork for the Best Printing Results
High-quality artwork helps us produce cleaner details, sharper text, accurate sizing, and better overall results.
Before submitting your design to The Laser Mama, please review the following artwork and file-preparation guidelines. If you are unsure whether your file is ready, contact us before placing your order.
Preferred File Formats
We recommend submitting artwork in one of the following formats:
- PNG with a transparent background
- SVG
- EPS
- AI
- High-resolution JPG or JPEG when transparency is not required
For most DTF printing orders, a high-resolution transparent PNG is the easiest and most reliable format.
Please avoid submitting screenshots, social-media downloads, thumbnails, or heavily compressed images whenever possible.
Image Resolution
For the best results, artwork should be created at:
- 300 DPI at the final printing size
- The exact width and height you want printed
- The highest available resolution
Increasing the size of a small or blurry image does not improve its quality. Enlarged low-resolution artwork may appear pixelated, soft, or distorted when printed.
Transparent Backgrounds
For DTF transfers, custom apparel, and many UV-printed products, artwork should have a transparent background unless the background is intentionally part of the design.
A white background visible on your screen may print as a white box around the design.
Before uploading your file, confirm that:
- The background has been completely removed
- There are no unwanted white edges
- No leftover pixels appear around the artwork
- The design has not been accidentally cropped
Submit Artwork at the Correct Size
Please upload your design at the exact size you want it produced.
The Laser Mama is not responsible for incorrect sizing when the customer provides or approves the requested dimensions.
Before ordering, confirm:
- Design width
- Design height
- Product size
- Placement
- Orientation
- Quantity
Do not rely only on how large the artwork appears on your phone or computer screen.
Text and Font Requirements
Please carefully review all:
- Names
- Dates
- Phone numbers
- Website addresses
- Spelling
- Capitalization
- Punctuation
Whenever possible, convert fonts to outlines or curves before submitting vector artwork. This helps prevent missing or substituted fonts.
If editable text is included, provide the required font file or the exact font name when permitted.
DTF Transfer Artwork
For DTF transfers and DTF gang sheets, submit:
- A transparent PNG whenever possible
- Artwork at 300 DPI
- The correct final printing size
- Clean, sharp edges
- No unnecessary background
- Proper spacing between designs
- Artwork that is ready to print
Avoid:
- Extremely small text
- Very thin lines
- Low-opacity details
- Blurry images
- Glowing or soft edges that depend on transparency
- Designs copied from low-quality screenshots
Colors shown on a screen may appear slightly different when printed because screens and printers reproduce color differently.
DTF Gang Sheet Files
When submitting a completed gang sheet:
- Use the exact gang sheet dimensions ordered
- Keep every design inside the printable area
- Leave enough spacing between designs for cutting
- Do not overlap artwork
- Check every design for quality and transparency
- Confirm that no artwork is cut off
- Submit one flattened, print-ready file when required
The customer is responsible for the layout, sizing, spelling, image quality, and quantity of designs included in an uploaded gang sheet.
T-Shirt Printing Artwork
For custom T-shirt printing, please provide:
- High-resolution artwork
- Transparent background when needed
- Desired print size
- Preferred placement
- Shirt color
- Shirt sizes and quantities
Artwork may need to be adjusted depending on the garment color, fabric, print location, and selected printing method.
Embroidery Artwork
Embroidery designs must be converted into a specialized stitch file before production. This process is commonly called digitizing.
Clear vector artwork or high-resolution images usually produce the best embroidery setup.
Very small details, thin lines, gradients, distressed effects, and tiny text may need to be simplified. Embroidery will not reproduce every detail in exactly the same way as a printed image.
Additional digitizing or artwork-preparation fees may apply depending on the complexity of the design.
Laser Engraving Artwork
For laser engraving, bold and clean artwork generally produces the best results.
Preferred artwork includes:
- Vector logos
- Black-and-white line art
- High-contrast images
- Clear text
- Simplified designs
Photographs, gradients, shadows, and highly detailed images may require editing before they can be engraved successfully.
The final engraving appearance may vary depending on the material, grain, coating, color, and natural characteristics of the product.
UV Printing Artwork
For UV printing, provide:
- High-resolution artwork
- Transparent background when required
- Correct final dimensions
- Clear, sharp text and details
- Vector artwork when available
Some colors and fine details may appear differently depending on the material and surface being printed.
Color Expectations
We work to produce colors as accurately as reasonably possible. However, an exact color match cannot always be guaranteed.
Color differences may occur because of:
- Screen brightness
- Monitor calibration
- RGB and CMYK color differences
- Garment or product color
- Material texture
- Printing method
- Ink and production conditions
For brand-critical colors, contact us before ordering to discuss available options.
Mockup Approval
Mockups are available upon request.
A digital mockup is intended to show the general design, placement, and layout. It may not perfectly represent the final printed size, material texture, thread appearance, engraving depth, or exact color.
When approving a mockup, carefully review:
- Spelling
- Names and dates
- Design placement
- Orientation
- Colors
- Product selection
- Print size
- Quantity
Once artwork is approved and production begins, changes may require a new order or additional charge.
Artwork Editing and Design Assistance
Basic artwork review may be included, but files requiring significant editing, recreation, background removal, vector conversion, digitizing, or design work may require an additional fee.
We will contact you when we identify a file issue that may significantly affect production.
Artwork services may include:
- Background removal
- Image cleanup
- Resolution improvement
- Vector conversion
- Layout adjustments
- Text changes
- Embroidery digitizing
- Gang sheet preparation
Not every low-quality file can be fully restored or recreated.
Copyright and Artwork Ownership
By submitting artwork, you confirm that you:
- Own the design
- Have permission to use it
- Have the necessary commercial rights
- Are authorized to reproduce all included logos, images, characters, trademarks, and text
The Laser Mama may refuse artwork that appears to violate copyright, trademark, privacy, or other applicable rights.
The customer is responsible for obtaining proper authorization before submitting protected artwork.
Final Customer Responsibility
Please review your artwork carefully before submitting or approving it.
The customer is responsible for confirming:
- File quality
- Design size
- Spelling
- Colors
- Orientation
- Placement
- Quantity
- Product selection
- Permission to use the artwork
Orders produced using customer-submitted or customer-approved artwork are generally not eligible for refunds or free replacements because of issues already present in the approved file.
